A Child’s War – September 2016
At the start of our topic ‘A Child’s War’ Year 6 spent the day at IWM Duxford. We had a lovely time exploring, hearing about the planes from the experts and even dressing up!
To finish our topic, Year 6 held a VE Day party. They planned the food, music and decorations appropriate to the time – May 1945. Family and friends were invited to join us.
At the beginning of this topic an artist came in to work with us. She taught us how to make felt pictures taking inspiration from the work of the Impressionists.
As part of the PSHE curriculum, Year 6 took part in Crucial Crew a course run by the Borough of Broxbourne with the aim of equipping children with a variety of life skills including ‘Stranger Danger’, Fire Safety and how to deal with Cyberbullying.
Bells and Carols
At Christmas, Year 6 visited The Friary to perform for the residents. They sang a variety of Christmas songs and played some carols on the bells.
A week later they went to sing at the Pavilion shopping centre in Waltham Cross and were delighted that the Mayor of Broxbourne and many family and friends came along to support.
